There is a rare opportunity to watch historic scenes being added to an epic mural at the Battle of Bannockburn experience this weekend, as artist Chris Rutterford adds some new scenes to his huge artwork.

Fresh from his Lion Rampant Mural in the EdinburghFestival, Chris will be at the Battle of Bannockburn experience in Stirling from 20 - 22 August.

He will be creating the famous clash between Bruce and De Bohun from the historic battle. Visitors to the centre will be able to watch Chris as he paints the encounter on a massive scale. The new scenes will be added to the 2m by 30m mural which was installed in the award-winning centre’s courtyard for the 701st anniversary of the battle.

Battle of Bannockburn Property Manager Scott McMaster said:

“We are used to seeing people brandishing swords, spears and axes in our stunning 3D exhibition, but this is the first time we will witness an artist at work! We hope visitors will pop along for some fresh coffee and our home baked produce as they watch our artist in residence at work. Who knows, they may even end up featuring in the artwork.”

The mural has been a popular addition to the Battle of Bannockburn experience this summer. The centre is the first of its kind in the world featuring state of the art motion capture and interactive technology. Visitors are immersed in a 3D medieval world. They are also given the opportunity to command a division in the army of Bruce or Edward II and win or lose the famous battle.

The mural will be on display until 31 October.

The Battle of Bannockburn experience was supported by the Scottish Government and the Heritage Lottery Fund. It’s open all year round, seven days a week – book tickets at
