Meet Robert the Bruce and Edward II in 3D

16 Feb 2014

Meet Robert the Bruce and King Edward II in 3D. Witness the armies preparing for battle, then find yourself cast in their shoes as King, or as an army commander in the innovative Battle Game that puts the visitor at the heart of medieval battle.

The 3D Bruce is based on the iconic 1960s Pilkington Jackson monument at the Bannockburn site. For The Bruce, Jackson modelled his head on measurements of his skull following the re-discovery of his remains in Dunfermline Abbey in 1818. The statue was meticulously researched to enable the new Centre to present a consistent image of the Scots King throughout the site. 3D Bruce was developed by interpretation designers Bright White, and the Glasgow School of Art's Digital Design Studios. His voice is portrayed by Scottish actor James Cosmo, famous for past roles in Highlander, Braveheart and most recently, Game of Thrones.

The images of Bruce and Edward II in full-on, life-size 3D are first witnessed by visitors inside the ‘Prepare for Battle’ room, where visitors are transported back to 1314, the night before the battle. There is the opportunity to wander between both camps interacting with the real people preparing for battle, while witnessing some of the physical preparations including battle training, surrounded by 270 degree, massive 3D screens, for a truly immersive experience.
